Expanding Mediums

In learning the technique of painting, I wondered why my paints didn't blend as easily as the instructor made it out to be. Quickly I figured out that he was using oil paints versus my acrylic. So, I've since switched mediums and found oil to have its own benefits and drawbacks.

Benefits: it goes onto the canvas and blends much easier making for a much better painting.

Drawbacks: it's much easier to make mistakes and takes significantly longer to dry. Plus clean-up is more difficult.

The differences are like drawing in pen versus pencil. Have to say, I prefer oil to acrylic when painting a scene.
